As a city Birmingham is in constant change. In fact, I’m not sure whether it’s evolving into something or simply has an identity crisis. We certainly seem to knock as many quirky buildings down as build new ones.
The more up to date of you will know that the latest casualty is the old Birmingham Library Building. It’s always divided opinion, but I always had a soft spot for it ever since my student research days. The brutalist stye always gave it that ‘I’m just popping down to the set of Total Recall’ feel. I’ll be sad to see it go, it’ll probably be replaced by a giant Nandos or perhaps a glass Starbucks, oh well.
At least our schizophrenic city makes for an interesting place to have a potter around and find old/new things.
